A Travilah/Potomac Landmark Awaits A New Life
150 Year Old Homestead Is Ready for a New Owner

Although not historically registered, this 150 year old "historic" landmark of the Travilah/Potomac community has been preserved and restored from 25 years of neglect and decay. It is now a shell with new windows and roof and mostly original wood floors and banister and all elements of the renovated/restored construction are visible for an architect or contractor to easily evaluate. The 2 acre lot has been cleaned up and it is environmentally sound. The RE-2 zoning allows for many commercial uses as well as residential. Potential commercial uses include an Antique Store, Country Inn, Veterinary Office and Day Care in addition to a host of other allowable uses per county code. The existing house was constructed in 1870 around a structure built in the early 1800's which was attached to a log cabin of unknown age, but probably built in the late 1700's. The log cabin was burned during the Civil War leaving the pegged frame structure of the addition still standing. After the Civil War they used the still standing old frame and built the current structure around and over the original structure. The back portion of the house has a portion of floor still using the old log structure where the old cabin sat and includes a root cellar. The roof of the old frame structure is still visible from the inside on the second floor. One of the out buildings may be one of the oldest outhouses in the area. Many area residents will recognize this home not only for the transformation from a run down, overgrown relic to a viable, venerable old homestead site, but also for the distinctive 15 foot Eagle which was carved from an old tree stump on the Travilah Rd. side of the property. Sitting at the corner of Glen and Travilah Roads, it is a short distance to Greenbriar Park and Glenstone Museum. It is currently for sale and ready for a new owner to imagine and create a new purpose for this charming old home.
