Monday’s Memorial Day holiday means some Montgomery County facilities are closed, while others will be open with limited services.

In Rockville, the city’s 71st Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Monday in the plaza at Rockville Town Square. Events include music by the Rockville Concert Band and the Rockville Chorus, the traditional wreath laying led by American Legion Post 86, and a 21-gun salute and presentation of colors by American Legion Post 86 Color Guard and Rockville City Police Department Honor Guard.
The parade starts at 10:30 Monday and will top off a weekend long celebration with more than 70 parade units including marching bands, drill and majorette units, floats and more. More than 20,000 spectators attended this year’s parade, which is one of the best in the Metropolitan DC Area.

The Taste of Rockville at Hometown Holidays Music Festival runs from noon to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24, on Maryland Avenue.
Enjoy food, beverages and desserts from some of Rockville’s best restaurants. Each ticket is $1.25 and can be purchased at a Taste of Rockville ticket booth.
What’s Open, Closed
Montgomery Community Media has this list of what’s open and closed.
- Montgomery County Public Schools and offices are closed on Monday for the holiday,
- All Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration offices are closed through Monday.
- Montgomery County libraries are closed Sunday and Monday.
- Parking at public garages, lots and curbside meters are free on Monday.
- The county’s liquor stores are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
- The county’s indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities will be open, but senior and community recreation centers will be closed.
- Montgomery County Memorial Day trash and collection are adjusted one day starting on Monday, May 26. Collection for Monday will be on Tuesday and all other days will follow one day later than the regular collection dates. You can find more information here.
- The Montgomery County District and Circuit Courts, county and state offices are also closed on Monday.
- Montgomery County Public Schools are closed on Monday.
- Ride on buses, Metrobus, Metrorail will all be operating on a Sunday schedule on Monday.
