Young was a passenger in a car initially pulled over by officers in Laurel during a traffic stop. During that traffic stop, police say Young assaulted two officers and was taken into custody. The suspect claimed he was injured and was taken to a hospital to be checked out. The hospital, finding no injuries, released the suspect back to police.
As another Prince George’s County patrol officer took Young to the prisoner processing area in Hyattsville, the handcuffed suspect managed to escape from the police cruiser. When the officer confronted Young outside the cruiser, the man allegedly tried to kick the officer and spit at him and bit him. Once the officer had Young down on the ground, the struggle continued until the officer gained control after deploying his Taser.
