Air Quality Alert Issued In Montgomery County May 3

An air quality alert is in effect in Montgomery County Thursday. Here's what you need to know.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — In a sure sign that summer is on its way, the National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert of the season for Montgomery County.

Authorities have issued a Code Orange air quality alert, which means that air pollution concentrations within the region may be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

"Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly," the alert states. "The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors."

There is an increased likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort for sensitive groups. Children and people with asthma are most at risk for experiencing symptoms.
