COVID-19 Cases In Montgomery Co. Rise By 98; Total Hits 66,589

Montgomery County added 98 new coronavirus cases overnight, according to public health data. The local death toll remains at 1,422.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County registered 98 new coronavirus infections overnight, data released by the Maryland Department of Health showed.

For Maryland's most populous jurisdiction, Tuesday's addition pushes the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 66,589.

No new COVID-19-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The local death toll remains at 1,422.

The latest fatality count does not include the 46 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 77,820, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 409,978 cases, 8,088 confirmed deaths, and 185 "probable deaths." Of the 1,029 people currently being hospitalized statewide, 245 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As of Tuesday, Maryland has administered 2,619,551 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Among those, 1,680,749 were first doses and 868,103 were second doses.

In Montgomery County, 324,408 residents (30.9 percent) have received their first dose. A total of 172,783 residents (16.4 percent) have already gotten their second and final shot.
