Electrical Fire Causes $275K Damage to Derwood House

A person inside the Derwood home called 911 after spotting the sparks, says Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Derwood, MD — Two people have been displaced after a fire ravaged their Blanchard Drive home on Monday.

Around 7:22 p.m. Monday, Montgomery County firefighters responded for a reported house fire in the 7300 block of Blanchard Drive in the Derwood area. Firefighters said they saw smoke showing from the two-story, single-family home when they arrived.

Crews quickly located and began extinguishing flames around an electric panel, according to officials. The fire was discovered by an occupant of the home, who then called 911.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be electrical in nature. The two occupants of the home have been displaced as a result of the fire.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Damages are estimated at around $200,000 to the structure and $75,000 to belongings inside the home.
