Families of Firefighters Celebrate Father's Day On-the-Job

For some local dads working their shift at Montgomery County fire stations on Father's Day, their families brought the celebration to them.

Bethesda, MD — Even on Father's Day, the local fire stations have to be staffed with firefighters, in case the worst happens.

This year was no different--which means some dads had to spend Father's Day on the job. Therefore, their families decided to bring their Father's Day celebration to them at the station.

For Lt. Jason Allen of station 20 in the Bethesda area, his Father's Day was made all the brighter when his wife and daughter surprised him by showing up and cooking him--and all the other firefighters on duty--a special dinner.

"His daughter even made his bed," said the department on its Facebook page. She chose Paw Patrol cartoon-themed sheets for his bed, featuring Marshall the fire-fighting pup. "Perfect bed cover and sheet selection, we might add!"

His daughter also drew a very special picture, which the fire company hung on the station board. Next to an illustration of the station, she wrote, "Station 20--Thanks for all you do. Please stay safe."

Also in Montgomery County, the family of a firefighter at the Glenmont/Silver Spring Station 18 visited him while on the job, and brought cookies for the entire team.

"Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. Especially those who are working on their special day!" wrote his wife, Colleen Newman.
