Flood Warning Issued For Montgomery County

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Montgomery County. A hotel in Rockville was evacuated, drivers rescued from water.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — After heavy rains in the Montgomery County area overnight Sunday, with more possible Monday morning, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning.

The flood warning is in effect until 12:45 p.m. Monday for eastern Montgomery County.

The NWS said up to three inches of rain has fallen and flooding is occurring on Rock Creek.

Some locations that may experience flooding include: Germantown, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Olney, Langley Park, Beltsville, Damascus, Aspen Hill, Potomac, North Bethesda, Montgomery Village, North Potomac, Fairland, White Oak, Redland and Takoma Park.

The Montgomery County Fire Department rescued multiple drivers in the area of Beach Drive and East Stanhope Road in Kensington Monday morning.

In Rockville, the Radisson Hotel at 3 Research Court was evacuated because of flooding from an overloaded storm drain, officials said.

The hotel was at 85 percent to capacity and guests were evacuated into tour buses and Ride On buses.

A food warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Residents should take necessary precautions immediately.

The latest forecast:

Monday: Showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 57. South wind 6 to 15 mph becoming west in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday Night: A chance of showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 51. West wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 37. West wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 64. West wind 6 to 9 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 41.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.
