Free Adoptions On All Dogs, Cats At Montgomery County Shelter

DERWOOD, MD — Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center is offering fee-free adoptions for all dogs and cats between June 25 and July 3.

The center partnered with Best Friends Animal Society to put on the event. It usually costs $150 to adopt a dog and $100 to adopt a cat from MCASAC.

"It's only been a few days since our FREE ADOPTION event began, but we've already sent a whole bunch of pets home," the adoption center said on Twitter. "Stop by tomorrow to check out the other amazing animals that still need families!"

You are asked to bring a leash, collar, carrier, or anything you will need to transport your pet home.

You must bring: an ID to show you are 18 and older; proof of residence; the part of your lease that allows you to own pets if you rent and payment if you are purchasing a license.

Same day adoptions may be possible in some circumstances, the center said.

You can visit the adoption center from 12-7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, or 12-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed on Wednesdays.
