Maryland State Police Officer Involved in Three-Vehicle Collision in Rockville
Sgt. Edward Witanowski was attempting to merge to the shoulder to help a disabled vehicle when traffic stopped abruptly.

A Maryland State Police Sergeant is recovering from injuries after being involved in a collision in the Rockville area on Tuesday.
According to state police, Sgt. Edward Witanowski was traveling northbound on I-270 near Muddy Branch Road in Rockville when he spotted a disabled vehicle on the left shoulder and attempted to merge from the second lane over to the shoulder to assist.
While attempting to merge from lane #2, traffic stopped abruptly and Sgt. Witanowski stuck a 2015 Ford F250 from behind, causing it to strike a 2014 Ford Focus in front of it.

Both the Ford F250 and the Ford Focus were able to be driven from the scene, but Sgt. Witanowski's police vehicle had to be towed from the scene, and he was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
