FRIDAY: Partly sunny, hot. The first day of June could be the hottest day of the week, with highs in the low 90s. More scattered showers and thunderstorms possible.

WEEKEND: Warm and muggy, partly to mostly cloudy. We could get some scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, and Sunday could be cloudier with more scattered showers and highs topping out at around 80 degrees.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The remnants of subtropical storm Alberto are churning into the southeastern United States, drenching Florida and leading Gov. Rick Scott to declare a state of emergency. Those remnants could make their way to our area, bringing a potential deluge of rain to an already saturated ground.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the country, Minneapolis hit 100 degrees on Memorial Day, the earliest on record. Just a month ago, it was enduring near-record cold temperatures and one of its biggest snowstorms ever.

And in nearby Ellicott City, Md., residents are cleaning up after massive flooding left a man missing and destroyed businesses.
