Montgomery County Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Warning
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued parts of Montgomery County by the National Weather Service.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Sure, the average highs around here for early May reside in the low 70s. But on days like today, when the temperatures shoot up to nearly 90 degrees, late-afternoon thunder boomers invariably become something with which to deal — some of them severe.
So it goes for today, as the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 3:45 p.m. for central Montgomery County. Areas affected include Rockville, North Bethesda, Bethesda, Germantown, Gaithersburg, Aspen Hill, and Potomac.
At 3:20 p.m., "severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Potomac to near Oatlands, moving east at 25 mph," the National Weather Service said.

"Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall," forecasters added. "This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles."
