SANDY SPRING, MD — Montgomery County Parks is offering several Black History Month-themed events this year, like a day for family and kids and a poetry-driven event. Check out information below.

All three events listed below will be at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park at 16501 Norwood Rd. in Sandy Spring.

Family Day: Feb. 8, 2020

From noon to 3 p.m., the whole family is invited to celebrate African American culture at Family Day. The event will feature hands-on activities for kids and will take place inside Woodlawn Manor. Tickets are limited and will be sold the day of the program.

Lyrical Rhythms: The Sounds of Freedom: Feb. 22, 2020

From 5 to 7 p.m., celebrate Black History Month by creating and sharing your own "sounds of freedom" through original poetry or by sharing poetry or music that inspire thoughts of freedom. Light refreshments will be served. This is an adult program, intended for ages 16 and up. It will take place inside Woodlawn Manor.

Black History Month Winter Walking Tour: Feb. 29, 2020

From 10 a.m. to noon, take part in the guided tour of the grounds and buildings of Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park "and discover the role enslaved labor played on this 19th century farm." The guided tour includes exterior space and a natural trail, and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather. It's intended for ages 8 and up.
