Paul W. R. Souder Jr., Maj, USAF (Ret.), was born to Ebba and Paul W.R. Souder Sr. on October 30, 1921, in Washington, D.C., and was the eldest son of four. He died peacefully on September 13, 2015 near his home in Rockville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gudrun (Eve) and was the father of Debbie Preston and Daphne Souder. Paul was a proud and devoted grandfather to three grandchildren, Paul Leiter, Kristin Leiter and Joseph Preston II. He was a father-in-law to Joseph Preston. He is preceded in death by his sister Ebba, and brothers, Eugene and George.

The World War II veteran pilot officer fought in Germany, and after continued his career with the United Air Force, residing in Riverside, CA. Upon retiring, he moved to Rockville with his family and worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency.
He had a love for sailing, camping, fishing and traveling, enjoying life to the fullest. He was a proud Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America, and helped with his grandson Paul’s troop until he too became an Eagle Scout.

Friends will be received at Pumphrey’s Colonial Funeral Home, 300 West Montgomery Ave. in Rockville, on Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. Interment with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friends of the World War II Memorial, 921 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20003.
