ROCKVILLE, MD — Damon Monteleone is leaving his role as principal of Richard Montgomery High School for a new position as assistant chief of the Office of Teaching, Learning and Schools for the Montgomery County Public School District.

The school board approved his appointment at its meeting Thursday afternoon. The district will begin the process of looking for Monteleone's successor at Richard Montgomery High School.

Monteleone has been in the district for 24 years, and has worked as a special education teacher, social studies teacher, resource teacher, assistant school administrator, and assistant principal.

He has worked as a teacher in Montgomery County, Washington, D.C., and in Austria as part of the Fulbright Scholars program, according to his principal page. Monteleone has served as principal of Richard Montgomery High School since 2014, according to student newspaper The MOCO Student.
