Recount 'Likely' In County Exec Primary: Report

David Blair says he'll decide Monday on challenging the results of the June 26 Democratic primary won by Marc Elrich, says media report.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The local businessman who lost the Democratic nomination for Montgomery County executive by just 80 votes says he will "likely" seek a recount, according to a media report. David Blair, a health care executive, plans to challenge the results of the June 26 primary won by Marc Elrich, a member of the County Council, radio station WTOP reported Friday.

Elrich won the race with 37,529 votes, while Blair finished with 37,449 votes, according to results posted by the county Board of Elections. The tally included thousands of absentee and provisional ballots.

Blair told WTOP that his campaign team will decide on a recount on Monday, when the Board of Elections will certify the results of the June 26 primary.

His team is conducting an independent review of ballots that may have been excluded from the vote count, WTOP reported. They're focusing on provisional ballots cast due to a computer glitch at Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration.

Nancy Floreen, another member of the County Council, announced this week that she will make an independent bid for county executive. Floreen and the Democratic nominee will face Republican candidate Robin Ficker, an attorney who ran unopposed for the GOP nomination.
