Rockville 2040 Hearing, Fire Hydrant Fine: Your City This Week

ROCKVILLE, MD — Stay updated on all the goings-on in Rockville this week, from the city council and mayor meeting, to senior center events and a Juneteenth panel.

City Council

Some things to watch for this week at the city council meeting include the introduction of an ordinance that would increase fines for parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant and a public hearing on the Rockville 2040 plan.

Traffic Fine Ordinance: This ordinance would increase the fine amount for parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, create parking restrictions for fire lanes, and restrict parking in designated handicap zones. It's being introduced in the council on Monday.

Rockville 2040 Hearing: The mayor and council will hear public comments on the comprehensive plan, which sets goals for improvements in the city over the next two decades. The public comment period is set to close on June 18.

This virtual program focuses on increasing empathy while avoiding being overwhelmed by other people's experiences.

Healthy: Fact or Fiction
June 16, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This program (also virtual) will work to dispel eating myths and focus on healthy nutrition.

Positive Aging Program - Women Living Alone
June 17, 1 to 2:30 p.m.

This open-enrollment support group is a place for women to meet and share experiences, tips, and advice for living alone.

Positive Aging Program-Managing Stress During the Pandemic
June 18, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This group meets regularly to help people who are dealing with "isolation, anxiety, depression, loss" during the pandemic.

Juneteenth

Rockville will observe Juneteenth for the first time on Saturday, June 19. The city will host events including a panel on racial equity, an exhibit that honors the Underground Railroad system in Rockville, and a virtual celebration from Step Afrika!
