'Trespasser' Struck By Train Outside Rockville Station: WMATA

Metro Transit Police said a 'trespasser' climbed the fence outside Rockville station and was hit by a train Tuesday morning.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A person was struck by a train outside Rockville station Tuesday morning, according to Metro and law enforcement officials.

The incident happened shortly before 6 a.m. and caused several hours of delay in both directions on the Red Line.

Passengers aboard the train that struck the person did not evacuate for safety reasons, WMATA tweeted.

In another tweet, Metro Transit Police said that the incident was a "result of (an) individual climbing (the) fence."

There are no pedestrian crossings in the area, Metro Transit Police added.

The individual, who officials say was pinned under the train, was rescued by emergency crews and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said the patient suffered a "traumatic injury."
