ROCKVILLE, MD — A recycling truck that caught fire on Wednesday closed six lanes of northbound Interstate 270 in Rockville, fire officials said. All lanes have reopened.

The vehicle caught fire shortly before 1 p.m. near Montrose Road in Rockville, sending three people to hospital. The truck driver was injured when his tire blew, according to Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

In order to extinguish the fire, materials on the truck had to be dumped out on the road and hosed down.
