What's Open, Closed For Labor Day In Montgomery County

The Labor Day holiday on Sept. 7 will mean closures for some key businesses, transit, and government offices.

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County is nearing the end of its first — and hopefully last — summer under the shadow of coronavirus. Prepare for a Labor Day weekend that's both unlike any other and strangely familiar after months of lockdown.

Below is a list of government facilities and services that are open and closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

  • County offices – Closed.
  • Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) - Stores open from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Libraries – Closed.

  • Recreation – Outdoor swim facilities will be open. Indoor pools at the Eunice Kennedy/Sargent Shriver Aquatic Center and at the Olney Swim Center will be open, but the indoor pool at the Martine Luther King, Jr. Center will be closed for renovations. The Germantown Indoor Swim Center will be closed for annual cleaning. All recreation centers, senior centers, and administrative offices will be closed.
  • Ride On/Ride On extRa – Operates on a Sunday schedule. Click here for more information.
  • Shared Streets program – Arlington Road will be closed to cars and open to pedestrians and cyclists to connect Downtown Bethesda to Montgomery Parks' car-free Little Falls Parkway from 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, to 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. Click here for more information.
  • Metrorail and Metrobus – Click here for more information.
  • MARC Train and Commuter Bus – Information is available at maryland.gov.
  • TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Closed.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for more information.
  • County-provided refuse/recycling pickup – Suspended on Monday. Recycling and trash collections will slide one day. Last pickup will be on Saturday, Sept. 12.
  • Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station – Facility closed.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – Free.
