Woman Severely Injured In Poolesville House Fire

A woman is battling life-threatening burns after a fire broke out in a Poolesville home and caused $750,000 in damages.

POOLESVILLE, MD — A woman is battling life-threatening burns after a fire broke out in a Poolesville home Monday afternoon, officials said.

The fire broke out in the garage at around noon at 1521 Sugarland Rd. The cause is still under investigation.

The blaze displaced four adults who lived in the home and caused about $750,000 in damages, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Two people were home at the time. One person was able to escape without injury, while the woman was found in the front yard and transported to the hospital with severe burns, Piringer said.

About 75 firefighters responded to the scene and distinguished the majority of the fire by 1:45 p.m.

Several vehicles were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The home was in a non-hydrant area, so firefighters had to call for water tankers to help extinguish the blaze.
