Man Sleeping in Abandoned Building Robbed: Police

A man sleeping in an abandoned building in Severna Park was robbed by a man to whom he reportedly owed money, police said.

Severna Park, MD — A man is in custody on charges he robbed and assaulted a man sleeping in an abandoned Severna Park building, authorities say.

The robbery was reported about 4 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of McBride Lane in Severna Park, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

The victim told police he was asleep in an abandoned building at the location when Derick Jabar Black, 23, of the 400 block of McBride Lane, Severna Park, came into the building. Black demanded money the victim owed him.

The two men fought and the victim suffered a minor cut with an unknown object.

Black then went through the victim's backpack and stole some of his property, police say. Officers located Black nearby, reportedly in possession of the victim's property.

The victim refused treatment for his superficial wound.

Black is charged with armed robbery, robbery and first-degree assault.
