How to Decorate Your Studio Apartment

Learn helpful tips on how to make the most of your studio apartment space!

For apartment hunters who aren’t interested in having roommates, a studio apartment is the perfect choice – a space for one, with typically lower monthly rent than a comparable one-bedroom apartment. Here at The Point, we understand this desire for studio apartments, and we delivered! Both of our studio apartment floor plans – the Francisco and the Manchester models – are perfect for renters looking for a brand new studio apartment in exciting downtown Silver Spring.

The all-rooms-in-one design layout of a studio can certainly present some unique design opportunities, leaving renters to wonder what exactly is the best way is to make the most of their open concept. If you’re looking to decorate your studio apartment, consider the following tips to make creative use out of your space:

  • Avoid bulky furniture. This may seem like a no-brainer, but you should avoid all large, clunky furniture when decorating your studio apartment. Keeping the furniture to a minimum will help keep the room uncluttered and open, helping it appear as large as possible. Consider having small bar stools available for guests to sit on in your studio apartment – they won’t take up a lot of space, and are easy to move and store.
  • It’s all about multi-functional. While you’re making sure to avoid bulky furniture, also be sure to look for furniture with multiple functions. This is another good tactic to keep the clutter to a minimum! Cube storage bins that double as a footrest or chair, platform storage beds, and tables that can be expanded or collapsed are great multi-functional pieces for a studio apartment.
  • Anchoring techniques. The aspect of studio apartments that renters find perhaps most challenging is trying to partition off separate areas of the room – without having any physical walls. One tactic to do this is “anchoring” a certain area – for example, the bedroom area, the living area, and a desk area – with accessories such as wall art and area rugs. This will help define its space and create flow in your studio apartment.
  • Furniture placement. Another way to designate distinct areas of your studio apartment is through smart furniture placement that defines spaces, without causing too much clutter and confusion. For example, placing two couches or futons perpendicular to each other with a coffee table in the middle clearly defines that space as the living room area. Creating clear distinctions in the different areas of your space, and creating clear pathways to these areas, is not only aesthetically appealing but can also deter visitors from using your bed as a sitting area, for example.
  • Make use of dividers. One of the biggest concerns for studio apartment renters is that their bedroom area won’t be isolated enough from the rest of the space. This can be fixed by implementing dividers to set off your bedroom area. Consider a folding divider, or – even better – a cubicle bookshelf that will double as storage. Another option is to hang curtains that can be drawn back when you want the space to feel more open and closed when you have guests over and want the space to remain private.
  • Keep it neutral. A neutral color scheme helps to create the feeling of a larger, more airy space. If you love color, don’t fret! You can always throw in some bold-colored accents or throw pillows to add some personality to a neutral scheme. Or, opt to incorporate objects with a lot of texture into your decor to keep things interesting, even when the colors are neutral.

Using the correct decorating techniques can turn your new studio apartment into a space-efficient and welcoming area to enjoy! For studio apartment renters at The Point, a charming and well-decorated space isn’t the only thing they have to look forward to – prices starting at $1,345, an ideal location in downtown Silver Spring, convenient access to Washington, D.C., and numerous apartment amenities – including a rooftop pool, outdoor track and turf courtyard – are all benefits of calling The Point at Silver Spring home.
