Boy Scouts Educate Takoma Park Residents About Mosquitoes
Takoma Park Boy Scout Troop 33 will educate residents on the Zika virus in Old Takoma June 10.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Takoma Park Boy Scout Troop 33 will be doing an Eagle project Saturday, June 10 to educate residents on the Zika virus in Old Takoma.
Troop 33 members will go door-to-door in the Philadelphia-Eastern neighborhood from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pass out fliers about Zika and mosquitoes. Members will also conduct yard checks to remediate mosquito breeding areas for those residents who request it.
Eagle candidate Avery Todd, a student at Blair High School, has been working with Officer Ron Hardy, the Emergency Preparedness Manager with Takoma Park Police, to develop this community outreach project.

"Many people are under the false impression that last year's Zika outbreak was a onetime thing," Todd said. "With mosquito season coming on, Zika will be on the rise again, and we need to take action to protect our community."
