Installation for Pedestrian Bridge over MD 320 Set for Early June

From MDOT: On Friday, June 2, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is planning to temporarily close MD 320 (Piney Branch Road) at the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway in Takoma Park. The closure is necessary for crews to install a new pedestrian bridge over MD 320. Weather permitting, all lanes will open on or before 5 a.m. Monday, June 5. In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed the following weekend.

During the lane closures and detour, crews will install a new pedestrian bridge over MD 320 at Sligo Creek Parkway providing safe access for Anacostia Tributary Trail users. MDOT SHA will also:

• Realign the shared use path;
• Construct ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps; and
• Upgrade traffic and pedestrian signals at the MD 320/Sligo Creek Parkway intersection.

Motorists traveling on MD 320 will be directed to MD 410 to Fenton Street to Wayne Avenue to Flower Avenue and back to MD 320. Although MD 320 will be closed to traffic, citizens will have local access to the south via MD 410 (Philadelphia Avenue) and the north end via Flower Avenue. Drivers should add extra travel time and expect delays. Signage will direct motorists along the work zone detour.

Through the end of the $1.9 million project, crews are also permitted to close one lane in either direction of MD 320 at the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional work and lane closure hours may be necessary to expedite all work and keep the project on schedule. This project supports Base Realignment and Closure related improvements in Montgomery County.
