Bright red bikes will descend on Montgomery County in mere weeks as part of the Capital Bikeshare program and county officials are busy readying roads, WAMU 88.5 reported.

County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) said Monday that bikeshare will eventually catch on all over the county, but it will probably take longer upcounty.

"But it will take time, a much longer period of time, than you will have in Bethesda and Chevy Chase where there's slower traffic and you have a much more ongoing tradition of bicycling," Leggett told WAMU.

About 29 docks for 250 rentable bikes will be available in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Silver Spring and Takoma Park while a separately funded bikeshare program will offer 200 bikes at about 20 docks in Rockville.
