Montgomery County Student Contest 'Combating Hate Through The Arts' Announced
Montgomery County Public Schools teamed up with community organizations to launch "United We Learn: Combating Hate through the Arts."
TAKOMA PARK, MD — Montgomery County Public Schools teamed up with the Montgomery County Faith Community Advisory Council, the Montgomery County Office of Human Rights, the Montgomery County Commission of Human Rights and the Committee of Hate Violence to launch a project for Montgomery County students called "United We Learn: Combating Hate through the Arts"
This project asks students to use art to explore issues of diversity, bias and prejudice to empower the community to combat hate.
"Combating the elevated levels of divisiveness, prejudice, bias and hate that have emerged in our county and country is the responsibility of every community member, including students," a statement about the project says.

There are multiple categories for submissions, including:
- Written: Essay, poem, play, etc.
- Performance: Dance, play, song, etc. Must be recorded in an electronic format that can be submitted via the contest website.
- Multimedia: Video/film, audio recording, podcast, etc.
- Visual Art: Poster, painting, graphic design, sculpture, photo, etc.
A Submission Review Committee made up of MCPS staff members, representatives from contest partners and others will judge all entries in all categories.

Submissions will be judged on creativity, alignment with the purpose of the contest, impact/emotion and collaboration. Entries will be accepted in various grade level groups: Elementary, Middle and High, and items from submission must be completed by a group of two or more.
