Sun and Rain, Nearly Born on a Train and a Weekend Less Mundane

Hey Takoma Park! TGIF! (Hey, we began the week with a “case of the Mondays” YouTube clip, so why not bookend it with this almost equally insipid quip?)

Here’s a look at some of the things you need to know to be in the know in Takoma Park today:

1. Just Run Between the Raindrops: You could get a lot of practice trying to master that skill this weekend. It’s not a total washout, but If you like today—when the National Weather Service says it will be mostly sunny with a slight breeze and a high near 84—well, don’t get too used to it.

2. First the Escalators, Now a Woman's Water: Your postal carrier, the pizza guy, the person next to you on the train platform. Each of them delivers. Only one of them delivered a baby at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station on Thursday.

3. Speaking of Offspring: “The Perseids are the offspring of the comet Swift-Tuttle.” Their due date: Aug. 11. Get a sneak preview here.

4. 2,632 Consecutive Games, $100,000: It’s not clear if the man who kidnapped Vi Ripken knew she was the mother of baseball "Iron Man" Cal. But the Ripkens—and several other Baltimore institutions—are offering a reward for answers, an arrest and a conviction more than a year after her abduction.
