Takoma Park Experiences Uptick in Burglaries

There have been six residential burglaries in the last two weeks.

A rash of residential burglaries have hit Takoma Park in the last two weeks.

In the past two weeks, there have been six residential burglaries of unoccupied single family homes, according to Takoma Park Police statistics.

All of the burglaries occurred just across the border of Washington, D.C.

"Our detectives are following up on all leads and are working closely with other
jurisdictions," Takoma Park Police Interim Police Chief Drew Tracy said. "The exchange of information between jurisdictions is proving helpful in our investigations. We will continue to update you as we make progress in these on-going investigations. Working together we can close these investigations by arrests."

The vehicles being used in the burglaries are stolen and have been two Dodge Caravans, a Volkswagon Passat and a Honda Accord, according to police.

The suspects entered through the rear of the homes by removing window screens and breaking windows. They usually parked their vehicles in the driveway and knocked on the door to see if the house was occupied, police said.
