Takoma Park Restaurant Takes Home RAMMY Award

A beloved Takoma Park eatery took home a 2017 RAMMY Award for "Best Casual Brunch." Can you guess which restaurant won?

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A Takoma Park eatery was honored Sunday night at the 35th Annual RAMMY Awards as the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington announced winners in 21 award categories. Some awards were decided by the voting public, while others were selected by an anonymous panel of volunteer judges, consisting of food and dining journalists, educators and foodservice industry professionals.

The public decided the winners in four categories: Favorite Gathering Place of the Year, Upscale Brunch, Casual Brunch and Favorite Fast Bites.

Republic, located at 6939 Laurel Ave., took home the award for "Best Casual Brunch."

The description of the award states, "The nominee is a restaurant that demonstrates a dedication to dining excellence, service and value in a casual environment for brunch. Brunch may be offered as full-service, buffet, or prix fixe. The nominee must have been in operation for a minimum of one year as of December 31, 2016."

Takoma Park's Republic was up against Cava Mezze in Capitol Hill; DGS Delicatessen in Dupont Circle; Maketto on H Street and Sixth Engine China Town.

Republic serves a variety of brunch cocktails, as well as popular dishes like their Farm Egg Quiche du Jour, Addie's Mussels, Slow Cooked Corn Grits, Huevos Rancheros, Duck Confit Cubano and Smoked Salmon Benedict.

The RAMMY Awards Gala honors the ability and accomplishments of the hard-working individuals and organizations of the region’s restaurants and foodservice community.
