Temps in the 80s, Singin’ for the Ladies and Where to Avoid in a Mercedes in the Week Ahead

A look at 5 things to have on your radar this week in Takoma Park.

Happy Monday, Takoma Park! Here’s a look at some of the things you need to know to be in the know in and around town this week.

1. I Love the 80s: It won’t be quite as cool and refreshing as last week’s “Autumn in July,” but the National Weather Service says if you like temperatures in the low- to mid-80s, you’ll love the week ahead.

2. Pick ‘o the Week: This one happens early in the week and a bit to our west. Tonight’s Fillmore Cares open mic series features singers and songwriters in support of Community Bridges, a Silver Spring nonprofit that empowers girls through leadership opportunities. Tickets are a $5 donation to hang out and hear local artists in the venue’s Vertigo Lounge from 6 to 9 p.m. Click here for more details.

3. ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): Repaving has begun on MD 410, which is East-West Highway east toward Prince George’s County and west toward Bethesda, but is known as Ethan Allen Avenue through town where the State Highway Administration was set to being final repaving Sunday night. 4. Ticket to Ride: Metro wants you to have a SmarTrip card. Prices for the passes aren’t changing, but you’ll get farther down the Red Line for the same $10 card purchase beginning this fall.

5. Let’s Get it Together: Engineers from the Brendle Group will be on hand for a community open house on environmental sustainability at 7 p.m. in the Takoma Park Community Center, at 7500 Maple Ave. The city in December awarded the Brendle Group with a contract to develop an environmental sustainability action plan and greenhouse gas inventory for Takoma Park.
