Weather Bust, Climate Change Discussed and Bartering for More Than School Lunch

Plus: An attack 'for Trayvon Martin' and a Patch-y way to introduce yourself to your neighbors.

Hey Takoma Park! Welcome to Wednesday! (Hump Daaaay!)

Here’s a look at "five things" you need to know to be in the know in Takoma Park today:

1. Our Luck’s Run Out: But we’re only talking about the weather—go ahead and buy that Powerball ticket for tonight’s drawing. Alas, our string of sensational weather is predicted to come to a screeching halt with overcast skies today leading to showers tonight and showers and thunderstorms throughout Thursday. The National Weather Service says to expect a high of 84.

2. Change You Can Believe In: (Or maybe you can’t.) But if you believe climate change is a real threat to our future, or wonder why Baltimore has some of the highest asthma rates in the U.S., or why Maryland is particularly susceptible to sea level rise, join U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Takoma Park resident and Chesapeake Climate Action Network Director Mike Tidwell, and a distinguished panel of experts for "We Need To Act": A Climate Change Town Hall at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

3. ICYMI (In Case You Missed It): From the “News Nearby” files: A Bethesda man was attacked in Adams Morgan on Saturday by three men who yelled: “This is for Trayvon Martin!”

4. Trade Ya!: Remember that kid at school lunch who could always strike a deal and get, say, someone’s Twinkie for his milk? That kid’s now a homeowner. And he knows about this nonprofit that lets you barter for home improvements.

5. You Talkin’ to Me?: Well, you should be. In fact, Patch gives you the opportunity to talk to (and with) all of your neighbors. Got something to say? Why not start a blog?
