TAKOMA PARK, MD — Columbus Day is that relatively odd holiday during which most traditional closings are the norm — unless they're not.

Here's a brief rundown of what's open and what's not Monday in Takoma Park:

Government offices: It's a federal holiday, so federal and state government offices are closed, while Montgomery County offices are open.

Schools: Oct. 10 is a normal school day for Montgomery County Public Schools.

Post offices: The day is a holiday for postal workers, so don’t expect mail delivery and your local post office is closed.

Banks: Most banks are closed for Columbus Day, with a few exceptions, including Wells Fargo and TD Bank.

Grocery and retail stores: Major grocery store chains will operate normal hours on Monday, as will retailers like Target and Walmart.

Transit services: The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Maryland Transit Administration will operate the following schedule on Columbus Day:
