Crickets: Music & Play Class for 4 to 6 Year Olds!
Children Gain Self-Awareness, Cognitive Abilities & Music Appreciation

Children’s Chorus of Maryland & School of Music (CCM) invites new students to enroll in Crickets Music and Play Program for boys and girls ages 4 to 6. Engaging the body and the mind in joyful music-making, Crickets gently encourages very young children to explore the voice as their first true instrument through play, games, and movement. Classes start Saturday January 19th, 2019 at the Children’s Chorus of Maryland in downtown Towson.
There are many benefits to Crickets classes, including the enhancement of self-awareness, academic development, and thoroughly enjoying themselves. Children usually do not realize when they are speaking loudly, quietly, quickly, or slowly, and they have no inclination to their pitch or tone of voice. Crickets class emphasizes these points and coaches the children in realizing how, and how loud, they are speaking. This is a benefit for parents as well as students! Crickets classes also help children develop an interest in music, which can lead to an interest in music literacy. Music literacy often produces better grades in mathematics, reading, and science because of the reasoning skills and cognitive development students acquire. Most importantly, children have a blast at Crickets. According to many studies, music releases endorphins, which help fight depression, as well as leave you in a good mood – a great antidote to cranky kid syndrome.
Specially trained and highly qualified music educators employ the same proven methodology in use since 1976 in CCM’s Conservatory program. CCM Crickets classes are comparable to MusikGarten, Music Together and KinderMusic classes, and often take up where those earlier classes leave off. Children enroll with no audition or interview required. Teachers may ask parents to join in from time to time, not only to observe their child’s music development, but also to participate in shared musical experiences with their child. At the end of the school year, Crickets present a very informal demonstration of their activities and achievements to parents and older students.

Children participate in games and activities to provide them with a foundation in all basic elements of music. This small-group music training is a wonderful application of using the voice as their musical instrument. Crickets is actually much better than any kind of private music lessons one might consider, since children learn faster and have a better experience learning in small groups. Children this age should not be subjected to private voice lessons!
