Second quarter foul trouble and one dangerous three-point shooter weren't enough to deter the Dulaney High School boys basketball Thursday night in Timonium.
The Lions toppled the visiting James Hubert Blake High School Bengals 68-51. Dulaney now advances to the regional semifinals, where the team will host visiting Paint Branch High School on March 5.

“We said if we get in the 60s we would like our chances,” head coach Matt Lochte said. "The guys really stepped up and played ball tonight.”
Dulaney led Blake for most of the game, although early foul trouble worried the No. 2 ranked Lions.

"We've had 70 practices!" Lochte yelled from the sidelines, watching two of his starters heading into the half with two fouls a piece.
"I can’t get those guys into the half with three fouls so they had to sit on the bench a little while," Lochte said. "We had a sixth and seventh man really step up and give us valuable minutes. Young guys off of the bench were able to knock shots down. We weathered the storm.”
The deep team effort didn't go unnoticed by co-team captain Gavan Scanlan who posted a team-high 20 points on the night.
"We're definitely pumped from a good home win," Scanlan, a senior guard, said.
He credited teammates junior Andruw "Dutch" Szczawinski and sophomores Jimmy Bonner and Gary Bernardez for filling in when the team found itself in foul trouble.
The Lions pulled away in the second half out-shooting the Bengals 35-28. Dulaney's student section roared as the clock ticked down the final 20 seconds.
"Dulaney has one of the best student sections in the whole county. It’s just awesome to see basketball be a big part of Dulaney High School again.”
