Goodbye, Timonium

Timonium, it’s been a pleasure.

From covering the antics of Justin Bieber to our Councilman’s folly—I’ve enjoyed every minute in between, covering everything that Lutherville and Timonium have had to offer. 

Those stories, by the way, are the major “book-ends” of my time here. Bizarre, right? 

Effective today, I’m now the new local editor for Perry Hall Patch, but I’ll never forget where I got my start with this amazing company. 

I’m going to miss a lot about Timonium. Although, to this day I still can’t tell what a person who lives in Timonium is called. Timoniun? Timonite? Timonier? M. Sullivan? 

I’m going to miss the fairgrounds where I was raked over the muck of journalism for writing about a cat show. The fairgrounds where I met a group of awesome bikers. The fairgrounds where I gained five pounds at the State Fair. The fairgrounds where photojournalist Monica Lopossay showed me a beauty I didn’t think possible. 

So much of my last two and a half years have been spent at the fairgrounds, I’m truly sad that organizers aren’t going to let me in for free anymore when my press credential says “Perry Hall Patch editor.” Certain vendors already didn’t like letting me in—at all—just because two men were stabbed and I wrote about it. No big deal, right?  

I’m going to miss writing about Dulaney High School—soccer and the school’s theater productions in particular. I already have a head-start in Perry Hall having covered the Timonium angle of the infamous soccer “Bernie-gate.” 

I’m going to miss Pam Rutledge, president of our Police Community Relations Council, who truly wants Timonium residents to lock their doors. By the way, if you believe in keeping your community safe you should really consider becoming a member of the council. 

Speaking of Timonium councils, I can’t sign off without thanking Eric Rockel, president of the Greater Timonium Community Council. Eric was my go-to guy for every happening in Lutherville-Timonium. He is, without question, the most engaged citizen, and a man who truly cares about his neighbors and the neighborhoods of every community leader in the 21093. 

I’m going to miss learning how to joust for you. I’m going to miss risking viral plague for you. I’m going to miss stepping in BGE’s shoes for you. I’m going to miss becoming a zombie for you. 

While on the topic of zombies, I must admit, there are two people that I’m going to regret not supplying with local news every day. 

You know them as the Jokesters. I know them as my friends Steve Bauer and Marianne Wittlesberger—Lutherville’s first family of awesome. 

We’ve done great work together over the years, braving the Timonium Scaregrounds and the Historic Lutherville Haunted Trail. I hope they’ll still invite me to their annual Halloween party.
