44,000 Gallons of Sanitary Sewer Overflow Stopped
Crews cleared the problem after a report of an odor on Aug. 5.

Utility crews stopped a sanitary sewer overflow on Monday near Goucher College in a grassy area northwest of the intersection of Dulaney Valley Road and Southerly Road, according to a press release by the Baltimore County Department of Public Works.
The department received a report of an odor in the area on Aug. 5, and said that the overflow was caused by a root blocking a sewer pipe. Crews cleared the obstruction by 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
Estimated to have discharged 44,010 gallons, the flow reached the Long Quarter Branch. The Baltimore County Department of Health will monitor water quality in the region.
Any water contact advisories will be posted on the department's website.
In an effort to eliminate recurring sanitary sewer overflows, the county continues installing 700 feet of relief sewers in a $275,000 project in the Idlewylde community between York and Loch Raven roads, as reported earlier this year. The project is expected to be completed in September.
