Baltimore Blast Moves To Towson
Towson University will be home to the Baltimore Blast, Charm City's soccer team, starting this season.

TOWSON, MD - The SECU Arena at Towson University will have more than just Tigers competing within its walls this year. The Baltimore Blast announced this week that it will be relocating its professional indoor soccer games to the arena on campus.
The team's home turf has been the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore City, which holds more than 14,000 people.
The Blast has played in Baltimore for 37 consecutive seasons, and the team said in a statement that the move will make parking more convenient, concessions more affordable and watching the game more intimate.

The decision was fueled in part by the desire to move the games closer to the fans.
The idea is to "bring our team closer to our core audience," Baltimore Blast owner Ed Hale said in a statement.

The team's fan base ranges from Westminster to Essex, Hale told ABC 2 News.
Hale said Towson University's SECU Arena was a "premiere facility in the greater Baltimore region."
The Towson venue can accommodate 4,000 fans, and since the Blast typically attracted 6,000 to its games, ABC 2 reports ticket prices are set to increase when the season begins in November. The team will be coming off a two-year championship streak.
"We look forward to the challenge of competing for a third consecutive championship this coming season at SECU Arena,” Blast coach Danny Kelly said in a statement. "As an organization, we're very excited to be able to keep our core group of players together. The continuity that we've been able to keep in the team has been a major component in our success over the past two seasons.
For some members of the Blast, playing at Towson - which signed a three-year deal with the team - the surroundings will be familiar; according to WBAL, several players on the roster are Towson alum.
