Baltimore County Under Winter Storm Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Baltimore County calling for several inches of snow.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — More than 8 inches of snow may fall in Baltimore County this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Baltimore County is under a winter storm watch from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.

Heavy snow is possible, and there may be significant travel and closures. People are advised to plan their travel ahead. Routes headed west from Interstate 95 and along I-81, I-70 and I-270 are likely to face the greatest impacts, according to the National Weather Service.

For example, in southern Baltimore County, officials said precipitation may mix with rain and sleet later Wednesday afternoon and night.

The National Weather Service forecast calls for mainly a cold rain east of the I-95 corridor, while areas 30 miles west could see more than a foot of snow.

"The best confidence of the high impact snowstorm is north and west of the major urban areas of the I-95 corridor," the National Weather Service advised Monday night. "The challenge in this forecast is accurately forecasting the rain/snow line, where areas to the east will be mainly rain, and areas to the west will be mainly snow."
