Baltimore County PD Encourages Teens to Apply for Youth Leadership Academy

From the Baltimore County Government: Ever wonder what police work is all about? The Baltimore County Police Department asks teens, 14 through 18, to apply now for this year’s Youth Leadership Academy (YLA). The deadline for all applicants is May 19.

The academy offers teens the opportunity to develop leadership skills, while meeting and having fun with other local like-minded peers.

This is the eleventh year of the YLA. It will run from Monday, June 26 through Saturday, July 1. Students will spend from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day learning various aspects of the Police Department. Each day, teens will visit various venues to accommodate the training for the day.
Students will visit the:

• Police Training Academy on the CCBC Dundalk campus
• Park School (Falls and Old Court Roads)

Students will also meet officers from various units and sections and learn more about their roles in the department.
At the end of the program, teens will participate in a graduation ceremony at the Baltimore County Police Academy.

Applicants must reside in the County, must be age 14-18, and have good grades. Besides the application form, applicants must write an essay about themselves and why they should be in the program. A parent or guardian will need to sign a waiver and consent form in order for the teen to participate in the YLA. A background check will also be done before a student can participate.
