Barbara Ann Van Natta, 86, Of Towson

Barbara Ann Van Natta died at home surrounded by her family on Feb. 20, 2018, at 86 years of age. She was born in Rochester, New York, on Oct. 16, 1931, to Helen and Herbert Schemmel.
She moved to Chicago with her family and met her husband, John (Jack) Van Natta when he was repairing their television, according to her obituary. They married on June 25, 1955, and moved to Towson in 1965, where she has lived ever since. The couple had nine children and 24 grandchildren.
"She was wholly interested in each one of them, their school life, sports, and careers," her obituary states. "She attended countless swim meets, soccer, basketball games, birthday parties, grandparents days, graduations, receiving of the sacraments and weddings."

She also volunteered for Our Daily Bread, Meals on Wheels, Adoration Chapel and was a minister of Holy Communion at Immaculate Conception Church.
Barb is survived by her husband Jack of 62 years; three sisters June Laven and husband Roger, Sr. Marlene Schemmel, and Shirley Rothwell and husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Paul Van Natta; and eight children, David Van Natta and wife Beth; Mark Van Natta and wife, Lynn; Kevin Van Natta and wife, Kathy; Kathy Reisig and husband, Tom; Laura Robinson and husband, Mike; Mary Rutter and husband, Marc; Karen Bloom and husband, Brian; and Beth Ann Legambi and husband, Frank; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her son, Paul, predeceased her on Jan. 15, 1983.

Funeral services will be at Ruck Funeral Home, 1050 York Road, on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. and at Immaculate Conception Church, 200 Ware Ave, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or PAN Foundation.
