Belly Dancers, Hot Rods and Art

Towson Arts Collective's Arts in the Park at Cromwell Valley Park paired pleasant weather with pleasing displays of paintings, photography, writing and music.

The Towson Arts Collective's Arts in the Park event over Labor Day weekend presented an eclectic assortment of entertaining displays.

There were antique cars, paintings, belly dancing, an art table for kids, writers reading their works, bands playing their music, and numerous artists featuring works.

Stewart White of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association stood alone in a grassy field overlooking the event and painted the antique cars.  He said the weather–and the lighting–was perfect for his work.

Brian Traux, president of the collective, said the festival went "extremely well."

"I'm always impressed to see so much great local talent coming together in such a beautiful place," said Traux, owner of Towson Framing Gallery. "Despite the challenging economy, I was impressed by the amount of sales. But, I think it has to do with the amount of talent and the need for that one of a kind art piece."

I can attest to the quality of work. My wife Denise bought a mosaic piece depicting the sun, moon and stars. It was one of the rare pieces we have ever agreed on.

It was hours–and dollars–well spent.
