County Pilot Program to Focus on Digital Speed Technology
Olszewski, Marks Partner to Support Digital Speed Sign Pilot Program

I commend County Executive Olszewski for working with me on a new traffic calming pilot program. This initiative will position digital speed signs around Baltimore County. The pilot program will deploy one digital speed monitoring system in each of the County’s seven councilmatic districts, with the results reviewed by traffic experts in the Department of Public Works. I have long argued that these speed signs, which remind motorists of how fast they are traveling, can help improcve safety along corridors where we cannot easily put speed bumps. Regester Avenue, Stevenson Lane, and Forge and Klausmier Roads are ideal candidates. No fines are levied under this system, but the signs do increase awareness--and hopefully persuade motorists to lighten their speed. I am looking forward to the implementation of this program.
