GBMC Earns 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired Recognition

The GBMC HealthCare System is proud to announce its 2020 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired recognition from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). This marks the second consecutive year that GBMC HealthCare was named a Most Wired hospital by CHIME.
The CHIME Digital Health Most Wired program conducts an annual survey to assess how effectively healthcare organizations apply core and advanced technologies in their clinical and business programs to improve overall health and access to care in their communities. GBMC was one of two hospitals in the state listed and to receive two Level 9 Most Wired recognitions, for the acute and ambulatory surveys, from CHIME in 2020.
“At GBMC, our clinical and information technology teams effectively deploy the latest technology to coordinate care and drive us towards our vision of being the community healthcare system where every patient is treated as we want our own loved ones treated. I am very proud of them in their achievement of the Most Wired award for the second year in a row.,” says John B. Chessare MD, president and CEO of GBMC HealthCare.

Some of GBMC’s IT advances include expansive telehealth services to accommodate the COVID-19 pandemic, a fully integrated patient portal, and real-time data visualization tools. The electronic health record (EHR) has the ability to consume discrete data from multiple external entities to ensure continuity of care.
“We are honored to receive CHIME’s Most Wired Performance Excellence Award in recognition of our improvement and in the leveraging of health IT toward advancing care for our patients,” said David J. Hynson, vice president and CIO for GBMC HealthCare. “This recognition celebrates our persistence in using technology to not only improve patient care and safety, but to enhance all of our business activities. We will continue to follow opportunities to advance care for our patients, families, and community using new improvements in technology.”

A total of 30,091 organizations were represented in the 2020 Digital Health Most Wired program, which this year included four separate surveys: domestic, ambulatory, long-term care, and international. The surveys assessed the adoption, integration, and impact of technologies in healthcare organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading.
Each participating organization received a customized benchmarking report, an overall score, and scores for individual levels in eight segments: infrastructure; security; business/disaster recovery; administrative/supply chain; analytics/data management; interoperability/population health; patient engagement; and clinical quality/safety. Participants can use the report and scores to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. Participants also received certification based on their overall performance, with level 10 being the highest.
This is the third year that CHIME has conducted the survey and overseen the program. In each successive year, CHIME has expanded the survey to capture more types of organizations that serve patients across the continuum of care. CHIME also continues to promote the program internationally to provide a global overview of digital health advancements.
