Last Day Of School May Change For BCPS Students In 2021
The Baltimore County Board of Education is considering shifting the last day of school.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Students in Baltimore County Public Schools may end the school year Tuesday, June 22, if proposed changes to the calendar are accepted.
The last day for seniors is Friday, May 21. Commencement exercises will be May 24 to 30 and June 1 to 4.
For other students, the final three days of school are assessment days.

Based on a proposal presented this week to the school board, this would be the schedule:
- Friday, June 18: Elementary, middle and high schools in session full day; last day of classes for preschool-3 and prekindergarten
- Monday, June 21: Elementary and middle schools close three hours early for students; high schools in session full day
- Tuesday, June 22: Last day of classes — Elementary and middle schools close three hours early for students; high schools in session full day; last day for teachers
Officials said the calendar modifications were proposed this week to account for three emergency closure days used during the 2020–2021 school year.

The closures occurred Nov. 25, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 after the Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) system was the target of a ransomware attack.
"The third-party experts with whom we’ve been working have confirmed that there is no evidence that any data was accessed or stolen," Superintendent Darryl Williams said in a January update on the attack. "We have taken the important step of deploying state-of-the-art endpoint detection monitoring to protect against these types of threats in the future."
Last year, the school board also modified the BCPS calendar. That was to account for a snow day and the special election to fill the open congressional seat left by the late Congressman Elijah Cummings. The last day of school in 2020 was also on June 22.
Due to virtual learning, there were no snow days this year for students in Baltimore County Public Schools. Schools were closed Nov. 3, 2020, for the general election, but that had already been built into the calendar.
