Sharon Love To Speak At College Safety Event

Sharon Love's daughter Yeardley Love, a graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, was killed by her ex-boyfriend while attending college in May 2010.

The mother of slain Notre Dame Preparatory School graduate Yeardley Love will be the keynote speaker at an upcoming seminar focused on safety as kids transition from high school to college.

Sharon Love, mother of Yeardley Love, will speak April 16 at the Arbutus Library Meeting Room during a seminar called "Transition to College: Be Safe," aimed at helping high school seniors and their parents with the challenges of starting college life.

The seminar will be held from 6:30-8:15 p.m. at the Arbutus Library, 855 Sulphur Spring Rd. A .pdf flier for the event is attached to this article.

Yeardley Love was killed by her ex-boyfriend George Huguely V while attending college at the University of Virginia in 2010. They had a previous, troubled relationship.

Huguely was sentenced to 23 years in prison by a Charlottesville, VA judge in August 2012.

Sharon Love will be joined by a panel of experts from UMBC and the Community College of Baltimore County who will address issues ranging from relationship violence and campus safety to partying, binge drinking, time management and mental health.

The event is sponsored by the Wilkens Police & Community Relations Council and Soroptimist International of Arbutus. Seating is limited.
