Vintage Towson: The Blacksmith's Shop

Check out this historic photograph, courtesy of the Baltimore County Public Library.

This photo, which dates to before World War I, is of George Pennington's blacksmith's shop in Towson.

The shop was once located at 627 York Road, on the southwest corner of York Road and Washington Avenue, just across the street from Prospect Hill Cemetery, according to an entry in the Baltimore County Public Library catalog.

Though its hard to tell, the site is actually located close to the current traffic circle.

Taken from the Treadwell property across the street at 617 York Road, the shot shows snow falling on the shop; today the Treadwell property is the site of M Jourdelle Bridal & Formal.
