Barack Obama Elementary School officials will join school board Chairwoman Verjeana Jacobs, Schools Superintendent William R. Hite, Jr., Chief of Supporting Services Michael Dodson and others to celebrate the school receiving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification.
The school received its LEED Gold Certification in December. During the certification process, the school was awarded 45 points in the five environmental categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Material and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and additional points for Innovation and Design.
The celebration begins at 8:30 a.m. on April 4. Barack Obama Elementary School is located at 12700 Brooke Lane in Upper Marlboro.
