Six Flags in Largo is a great option for the kids.

The national unemployment rate was 9.2 percent last month, according to the United States Department of Labor. With such a weak economy, more and more families are looking for ways to stretch their vacation dollars. And with gas prices increasing, a vacation closer to home is a viable option.
Six Flags of America, located in Largo, is expected to have a great financial summer as more families decide to keep it local. A season pass to Six Flags is $59.99, so if you buy four, it may not fit your budget.
A cheaper alternative is the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Within walking distance of the Cleveland Park Metro Station, the zoo offers daily programs including animal training, feeding demonstrations, and keeper talks. Admission to the zoo is free, however parking rates vary. You can find street parking, if you don't mind walking a few blocks.

If your kids are baseball fans, Nationals Park in Southeast D.C. is a terrific place to watch your home team. Fans can purchase a family fun pack -- for all Saturday and Sunday home games -- for $14 (per ticket) for an Upper Right Field Terrace ticket (including prime games) or a $25 Outfield Reserved ticket ($28 for prime games) which includes a hot dog, Coca-Cola/Dasani beverage and chips. There is a minimum of two tickets per purchase. Tickets are available in advance at www.nationals.com/family, via telephone or at the Nationals Park Main Box Office, as well as on the day of the game.
