Fire Chief: Check Your Smoke Alarm Today, YOU Might Save a Life Tonight

Two fatal fires, one on Christmas Eve and the other on Christmas Day, has the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department taking steps towards a safer community.

Firefighters and paramedics will be going door-to-door on Booker Drive at 4 p.m. Friday. Officials will check that all smoke alarms are working properly. The department will install an alarm for residents who do not have one that is functioning.

While the house where the second fire occurred had smoke alarm that detected the fire and woke up one of the residents, the first one did not have any working alarms.

Prince George’s County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor urges residents to check smoke alarms today to potentially save a life.

Both cases are still under investigation in order to find the cause of the fires.
